This work is a pedagogical adaptation of The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, one of the great classics of world literature.
This adaptation was developed exclusively for educational purposes, intended for students of European Portuguese as a Foreign Language at the A2 level of the CEFR. The text has been carefully rewritten and adjusted to the linguistic level of the target audience, respecting the spirit, structure, and essential messages of the original work.
The objective of this adaptation is not to replace the original text, but to make it accessible to students who do not yet possess sufficient linguistic skills to read the entire work, allowing them, nevertheless, to come into contact with a literary text of great human and cultural value.
Throughout the adaptation, the following were prioritized:
- a controlled and recurring lexicon; clear and progressive sentence structures;
- frequent use of dialogue, facilitating comprehension;
- and the preservation of the central ideas of the work: friendship, responsibility, time, affection, growth, and the meaning of life.
This book is designed for extensive reading and can be used:
- in the classroom;
- as guided independent reading;
- in Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) book clubs;
- as a natural transition between level A2 and the beginning of level B1.
More than understanding each word, the student is invited to understand the message, reflect, and create personal connections with the story, in a process that reinforces not only linguistic competence but also cultural and emotional sensitivity.
